A Comprehensive Integration Solution:

With the addition of the Hospira MedNet Integrator™ application, the Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite maximizes the potential for Hospira infusion devices to reduce medication errors, optimize clinical workflow and support quality improvement initiatives.

The Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite and Hospira MedNet Integrator solution take full advantage of the hospital?s communications and enterprise resources to support this potential with two basic components?electronic infusion documentation (which is provided to the eMAR or other healthcare management systems in the hospital) and support for real-time, 5-Rights Verification through integration of the infuser network into a bar code point-of-care (BPOC) system.

Electronic infusion documentation reduces transcription gaps and errors and supports continuity of care with timely, accurate and legible information. The integrated BPOC solution helps maintain the integrity of infusion data by ensuring that infusion parameters entered on the infuser are consistent with the physician?s orders. Both of these components improve clinician workflow efficiency while simultaneously improving patient safety.

The leading-edge capabilities of the Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite with the Hospira MedNet Integrator are further enhanced by Hospira MedNet Safety Software.

By enabling the transmission of data between BPOC Systems and Hospira MedNet Safety Software, the Hospira MedNet Integrator solution provides administrators and clinicians with hospital-wide device information and control. For example, the real-time nature of this data exchange makes it possible to broadcast infusion device alarms to pagers or other monitoring devices so that clinicians can assess the situation accurately and take immediate action, enhancing quality of care.

With these tools the Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite and the Hospira MedNet Integrator inspire confidence in the clinicians charged with administering infused medications, thus providing an added layer of protection and patient safety.

Application

Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite extends the wired and wireless connectivity of the Hospira MedNet N Server Suite to interoperability with BPOC and other clinical systems through the Hospira MedNet Integrator solution.

Closing the loop on the clinical process, Hospira MedNet N5 Server Suite with the Hospira MedNet Integrator is a powerful system to inspire clinician confidence and protect patients. The immediate and remote access to event histories provides data to support performance improvement initiatives through a variety of reports such as an infusion summary report; listing of medications infused by unit and by medication; and device use and location.

Benefits

Hospira's commitment to patient safety, caregiver confidence and clinical best practices is at the heart of its medication management system. Implementation of this server suite has many benefits:

  • Drug information libraries use the pharmacy's own drug information data
  • Localized drug libraries for clinical care areas make best use of available devices
  • Remote, automated drug library updates simplify the process, provide consistency and improve workflow
  • Establishment of hard and soft dosing limits provides clinicians with the flexibility to manage doses and rates and the controls to help prevent mistakes
  • Administrators in clinical care areas can set their own device-specific rules
  • Real-time data gathering from individual device logs enables easier monitoring of device performance and alerts
  • Asset tracking enables hospitals to improve use of available devices
  • BPOC integration supports the continuum of care and 5-Rights Verification of I.V. Infusions
  • Device reporting and CQI reports support performance enhancement efforts
  • Bar code-driven workflow process assists in documentation of I.V. infusion data
